William G. Yates III is the CEO/President of W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Company and CEO/President of The Yates Companies Inc. Yates is a nationally recognized contractor and has been consistently listed in the Engineering News Record’s top 50 contractors in the US. Noted projects include Nissan automotive facilities in the United States and Mexico, Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, the US District Courthouse in Jackson, Mississippi, and the Volvo and Mercedes plants in Charleston, South Carolina. Yates has provided services around the world including Russia, Mexico, and India. William is a very successful person, but all his knowledge and skills acquired during his life are his enthusiasm for learning and constantly upgrading his skills, he read a lot and took courses, so if you also want to dedicate yourself to this work, help with capstone project
William obtained a bachelor degree in business administration from the University of Mississippi – summa cum laude and was a Taylor Medalist. William also earned a Master of Science degree in construction management from Arizona State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant as well.
William is on the board of the Mississippi Economic Council and served as chair 2017-2018. He is also the former chair of the Mississippi Partnership for Economic Development. He serves on the Board of Directors for Trustmark Corporation and Trustmark National Bank and on the board of the University of Mississippi’s Alumni Association as well. He has served on the Millsaps College Board of Trustees and the Blueprint Mississippi Advisory Council. At the request of Governor Bryant, he served as the 2013-14 Co-Chairman of the Southeast U.S. -Japan Association Joint Meetings in both Japan and Mississippi. William currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Gulf Coast Business Council.
In 2016, William received the United Way of South Mississippi President’s Award. In 2016 he was also recognized as one of the top CEOs of Mississippi by the Mississippi Business Journal. Additionally, he was awarded the University of Mississippi’s Farrington Distinguished Entrepreneurship Award. In 2018 he was given the Hope Award for his exceptional dedication and leadership to the Gulf Coast community. He has been featured in the Mississippi Business Journal and the Sun Herald as a Top Business Leader under Forty and was inducted into the Roland Weeks Hall of Fame Outstanding Community Leaders Class of 2010. In 2009, William was named the Construction Person of the Year by the Mississippi Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors. William has also been named one of South Central Construction's Top 20 under 40.
William is a past board member for the University of Mississippi Foundation, past chair of Mississippi Associated Builders and Contractors (MABC), and past chair for the American Heart Walk for the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He has served as President of the Board of the United Way of South MS and on the board of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. He also has served on the Advisory Council of the MSU School of Architecture, and on the Advisory Committee of the USM School of Engineering Technology.
William is married to Tara Duett Yates. They have an eighteen-year-old daughter, Abby, and a sixteen-year-old son, Gully, where they are members of the First United Methodist Church of Biloxi.
